Making things personal in any type of advertising will surely give you better results compared to standard "dry" ads. Lets say you sell online some products and your target group is of wide range.
And you run email campaign to advertise your product. People receive so many email on daily basis that they have developed a self defense mechanism for detecting spam. If you really want to reach them don't just write

If you divide for example the campaign for different company profiles by profession like Lawyers, Web design companies, Hosting providers etc. You can make it more personal, make them see that you know who they are, what their business is.They most likely will read the article/ad you send them.Making it more personal will gain you more trust in the product you are promoting.
Or lets say you go for something local, a print ad in newspaper.How to be personal in there.
It depends in the product if its cheap or of high quality (these 2 words should be in one sentence
). In either of the cases the benefit should be directed to the viewer.
